Full Search
The EDIOS Full Search enables you to focus your search by variables measured, instrument type, system type, geographic location, free search etc. and to sort through metadata from all included ocean-observing stations and series. Searches can be made using a versatile geographical and alphanumerical interface, by which you can combine search criteria like variables measured, country and names of data holding organizations etc together with a geographical area of interest, which can be indicated by an integrated dynamic mapping application.

Important for Windows XP and Apple Macintosh users: Read this

The results of your search are listed in a browse list of EDIOS entries and are simultaneously displayed in a dynamic map, which allows for typical mapping functions like zooming in, zooming out, panning and for retrieving the full metadata of listed EDIOS entries. For each observing point EDIOS includes geographic location, variables measured and frequency of measurement, access to data, and technical information on the data collection methods (instruments, sensors, ships, platforms, nets, etc.). It also presents applications of the sampled data including derived products, details of institutes responsible for each instrument or sensor, and links to data-holding institutes. It may provide direct online access to real-time data; in other cases access to actual data and related datasets is through negotiation between the user and the repository where the data is stored.

Quick Search:
Next to this Full Search you can also query the EDIOS directory by using the Quick Search option. This presents a dynamic table (matrix) showing the range of variables, the geographical coverage and the number of stations / data series, that are included in the EDIOS directory, at a glance; plus the option to present each combination as a query result in the EDIOS map interface.

Global Programmes:
The EDIOS Directory has a focus on ocean and marine observing systems operating in Europe. The current status and further detailed information relating to operational data collected under global programmes, for example, Argo, DBCP, GLOSS and SOOP is available from the JCOMMOPS website.
